Best Places for Outdoor Workouts in Omaha

The sun is shining and birds are chirping, you must be wondering why you’re still cooped up in the gym working out, not that we don’t love having you here. Omaha has so many beautiful places to workout outside, none of them being your boring old backyard or neighborhood. Take a look at some of the best, and prettiest, workout spots in Omaha.

Elmwood Park

Elmwood Park is a beautiful park located right next to the University of Omaha’s campus. It stretches on the north and south side of Dodge Street, connected by a footbridge. On any given day, you’ll see a great variety of people enjoying the park, from college students playing a game of ultimate frisbee or couples walking their dog, to fantasy enthusiasts live action role-playing (commonly referred to as larping).

The park offers many sidewalks perfect for walking or jogging, as well as spacious grassy areas for other activities. There is even a large hill on the north side of Dodge that would be perfect for sprints.

Field Club Trail

This trail is perfect for walks, runs, and bike rides! It is a 10-foot wide, 2-mile long trail that extends from 40th and Leavenworth to 36th and Vinton. It isn’t uncommon to see area workers utilizing the trail to take brisk walks on their lunch breaks.

Glenn Cunningham Lake

If you’re up north in Omaha, Cunningham Lake would be perfect for a workout. The park allows a variety of activities from horseback riding to fishing. You can even rent stand up paddle boards and dive right on in! There are also plenty of trails for hiking and bike riding. To say there’s enough room to pitch a yoga mat in the grass is an understatement. There is over 1,000 acres of parkland to enjoy.

Heartland of America Park

Heartland of America Park is the place to workout if you’re near downtown. If you’re really lucky, you’ll be there when the 320-ft water jet and light show are happening. But if you miss the show, this park is still the perfect place for a workout. There is even a lengthy flight of stairs for sprints. We know how much you love those!

Omaha Riverfront

There’s no doubt about it, Omaha Riverfront is one of the most gorgeous places to workout in Omaha. It offers riverside trails perfect for walking, running, or biking, as well as the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge that connects Nebraska and Iowa. Strap on your shoes for an afternoon run on the 3,000-foot long bridge over the breathtaking Missouri river.

Zorinsky Lake Park

Located near 156th and F, Zorinsky is a great place to workout in west Omaha. The park features winding trails with beautiful views, a fishing dock, and various sporting areas.
