Beat the Winter Workout Woes

So yeah, it’s pretty cold. Leaving your toasty home to go workout when there is chili to be made and eaten can be rough. The sun is down by the time many of us get out of work and it can zap your energy. It’s just plain easier and more enjoyable to workout and stay active when it’s warmer.

“As is typical during the winter season, Americans report exercising less. The percentage of adults who reported exercising frequently — for at least 30 minutes three or more days per week — fell to 49.8% in November, from 52.2% in October and from the year’s high of 54.5% in July.”

Reduced activity during the winter may be the norm for America, but let’s not make it the norm for Pinnacle Fitness Club members!

Don’t Get SAD, Get Fit

Ever get a little down during these cold, dark months? It’s actually pretty common. Some people are even diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) when the lack of natural sunlight and ability to enjoy the outdoors causes depression. Even if you haven’t been diagnosed with SAD, you can still suffer from mild symptoms.
Beat the blues with exercise! According to Everyday Health, “Among the vast amount of research on depression and exercise is a recent study, published in The Cochrane Review, that reviewed 30 clinical trials on exercise and depression and concluded that exercise improves symptoms of depression.” During the winter months, please consider that exercise isn’t just great for your body physically, but it is also very beneficial to your mental health.

Gear Up

Who doesn’t like some new workout swag? May of us dread the winter because we aren’t prepared for it. We’re treading through three feet of snow in running shoes and thin workout wear. We all know the misery of working out in cold, wet shoes. Well knock it off, you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Get the right gear for a winter in Nebraska, and workout in comfort.

Hit the Hot Tub, Sauna or Steam Room

You know that moment during the day when you just think, “I’ll never be warm again. This is it, I will always be cold from now on. I now live in my own personal Narnia during the everlasting winter”? Don’t forget you have access to some pretty rad, pretty warm amenities at Pinnacle Fitness Club. The hot tub, sauna, and steam room are piping hot and just waiting for you to work up a sweat.
