Improves heart and lung function
As we get older, it becomes vital to keep our heart and lungs in working shape, but it has to be done regularly and with safety in mind. While aqua fitness gets the heart pumping and the lungs working, it is considered a milder form of cardio, ideal for the aging population. Aqua fitness keeps the heart and lungs in a healthy, aerobic range, that is safer and more sustainable.
Builds strength with gentle resistance from the water
The water’s natural resistance is ideal for older adults because it is not at all jarring on the joints or bones. You are able to strength train with safe, flowing movements that have little to no impact.
Helps with balance and reducing the risk of injury from falls
Again, the water’s natural resistance keeps you upright, taking the pressure off of bones and joints. Falls or accidents that occur during other types of workouts can have detrimental effects, while if you take a fall in the water, or drop a weight, the impact is cushioned by the safety of the water.
Relieves joint pain as well as symptoms of arthritis
The buoyancy that water creates takes the weight and pressure off. This does a couple of great things. It allows people who would normally experience inhibiting joint pain during a workout to extend their workout, keep going, and improve their fitness. It also makes the whole fitness experience more enjoyable. When you don’t have to constantly worry about being in pain, you enjoy what you’re doing and get more out of your time at the gym with your fitness pals.

The most important reason that aqua fitness is ideal for older adults is that it’s fun! Have you ever walked past one of our Aqua Fit classes? It’s a good time. We get the music going, endorphins are pumping, and everyone is in an environment that is safe and comfortable.
Working out can be daunting when you feel unsafe or you’re faced with being in pain the whole time. Aqua fitness creates a safe space for aging adults to embrace fitness and reap the benefits of socializing in an active, positive environment.
