8 Ways to Drink More Water Each Day

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, drinking your daily recommended amount of water is the easiest, cheapest, and most effective thing you can do on a daily basis to improve your health. Drinking more water has so many positive effects on your mind and body. Let’s talk about how to get more of that high quality H2O on the daily.

 

Eat More Water-Loaded Foods

Fruits like watermelon, oranges, strawberries, and raspberries have very high water content. You can also get a nice amount of water from lettuce, celery, spinach, cucumbers and bell peppers. Obviously, these foods need to be eaten raw to get all the watery goodness out of them.

 

Carry Around a Water Bottle You Like

Everywhere. Most of us will mindlessly reach for water if it’s in front of us. And be sure to spend the time finding your favorite water bottle. It sounds silly, but you’ll know when you’ve found it! And if it’s always with you, you can help #banthebottle and instead of picking up a plastic bottle at the gas station, you can fill up your own. Most soda machines have a small water tab for ice cold water.

 

Infuse Your Water

Infuse your water with the fresh, natural flavors of fruits, veggies and herbs. There are hundreds of water infusion recipes but here are a few of our favorite:

-Mint and Lime

-Watermelon and Basil

-Ginger and Peach

-Strawberry, Lemon, and Mint

 

You can find infusion bottles for a really decent price just about anywhere. They keep your ingredients separate but submerged so you get all the flavor without the floaties slowing down your flow.

Add Flavors to Your Water

There are a lot of these water enhancers on the market now. Major brands like Skinny Girl, Mio, Propel and Dasani offer tons of great flavors in really easy to travel with packaging. You can also get your vitamins and energy in while downing your daily dose of H2O with products like Emergen-C and Emergen-C+Energy.

 

Dilute Your Favorite Sugary Drinks

If you can’t live without your juice or sports drinks, you can add a little water to dilute the sweetness, make the drink last longer, or cause you to drink less of the sugary drinks. Once you get in to this habit, you’ll be surprised at how syrupy those drinks are at full force without dilution. You sort of retrain your taste buds.

 

Stick to the One-to-One Rule When Drinking Alcohol

Although you have been told to do this since your late teenage years, this is a friendly reminder to stay hydrated when imbibing! Alcohol really dehydrates you and leads to hangovers. For every alcoholic drink you drink, have a glass of water.

 

Use a Tracker Bottle

There are smart water bottles out there that connect with your phone or beep at certain times to prompt you to drink. Those are great, but if you’re not quite that fancy with your water containers, you can simply get a bottle with time markers on it.

 

Bargain With Yourself

Incentivize your water intake or set goals. Like, “Before happy hour, I need to drink 5 glasses of water.” Or “If I drink my 8 glasses today before 6pm, I get dessert.”
