Habits of Healthy Moms

Hey Pinnacle pals, don’t forget that this Sunday is Mother’s Day! The perfect time to celebrate having these powerful women in our lives and to show them we appreciate everything they do. Whether you are one or you know one, mothers need to be cared for too. They need support, and they need to know that it’s not just okay to dedicate time to themselves, it’s downright vital. When you know what the habits of a healthy mom are, you can support those habits with your everyday actions and choices.

They’re Active

When you see a mom running around from work, to school, to the grocery store, to insanity, they are definitely busy, but they aren’t necessarily being active. We want to get that heart rate elevated and see some sweat. While making time for a proper workout is ideal, we know that can’t always be the case. Instead, you could offer to show mom how to order groceries online and ask her to dedicate the saved time to doing something fun and active. Instead of just eating out, you could talk her into walking to a nearby restaurant for a night out. You could share Pinnacle’s class schedule that optimize your time spent in the gym with professionally led classes. Or, you could talk her into joining you for one of the many free weekly classes around Omaha like:

They Eat Well

So you might stop by the store on Sunday and grab some chocolates. That’s not a bad thing. After all, indulging every once in awhile is fine, especially for special occasions. But consider there might be something better -more thoughtful- you could do for her that also supports healthy habits. If the mom in your life doubles as a superhero, remember she needs the right fuel to keep that up. Swap out the cheap (and let’s just be real -unimaginative) chocolates for a beautiful fruit salad, some artisanal spices and marinades, or a trial subscription to a healthy food delivery service.

They Rest

A healthy mom knows that she doesn’t do anyone any good if she’s a sleep deprived zombie. A healthy mom gets 8 hours of sleep each night, and if that’s “impossible” then something needs to give. Plain and simple. When we don’t get enough sleep, a whole cluster of terrible things start happening to us internally. Lack of sleep can lead to higher risk of chronic health problems like high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Weight gain, inability to concentrate and many other symptoms can arise.

They Say “No”

You know when you’re on a plane and the flight attendant tells you that in the case of an emergency you need to put your own mask on before helping others? Seems kinda wrong, but it’s oh so right. You can’t help someone else breathe until you can breathe yourself. A healthy mom knows when to recognize that she is spread too thin, and that it’s time to say “No”. When there is no time to exercise, plan meals, get adequate rest -it’s time to start saying, “No”.
