Summer Fitness in Omaha

From an outsider’s perspective, Omaha is very often underestimated. The reality is that Omaha has a lot to offer. There isn’t a day of the week that our fitness community isn’t doing something fun and exciting. We Omahans also try to soak up every bit of summer we can. Before you know it we’ll be scraping off car windows, so we have to get our outdoor kicks in while we can.

Bike Rides

Taco Ride -One of the Midwest’s longest running, largest organized bike rides is on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail from Council Bluffs to Mineola. Most cyclists hit the trail at around 6pm every Thursday. The ride is about 20 miles round trip. The Thursday night special consists of tacos and margaritas, hence the name, “Taco Ride”.

Pizza Ride -This ride takes place around 6pm every Tuesday night and takes off and ends at La Casa Pizzeria West. Cyclists can make the ride as long or short as they wish. After the ride cyclists gather around pizza pies and drinks.

Heartland BCycle -This is a great new addition to our city! Heartland BCycle has bike rental stations all around the city for locals and tourists to use for a reasonable price to get around town.

Outdoor Yoga Classes

Lauritzen Gardens -On scheduled Wednesdays you can experience a yoga class in the beautiful gardens. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. They also offer Tai Chi in the gardens on select Thursdays.

Fontenelle Forest -Doesn’t yoga in the forest sound sublime? Every Wednesday, members can attend for free and non-members just have to pay the daily admission cost. Stick around for a walk and tea after class.

Aksarben Village -While you’re hitting up the farmer’s market on Sundays you can catch yoga and/or Zumba in the open, airy Stinson Park for free!

Outdoor Bootcamps

Turner Park -Every Wednesday you can experience a new type of workout in Midtown Crossing. The workouts vary from bootcamp style, Pound, Zumba and more.

Lewis & Clark Landing -Every Tuesday and Thursday you can join the YMCA sponsored bootcamp in downtown Omaha for free on our picturesque landing.

On the Water

Stand Up Paddle Boarding -SUP is the latest workout craze for summer because it gives you a great core workout while you stay chill on the water. We recommend heading to Glenn Cunningham Lake, it’s a no-wake lake and there is an outfitter right there to rent your SUP. They also offer fitness and yoga classes on your board!
